Hemp seeds not only contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, but they also contain them in a combination that is very balanced for the human organism. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids exist in a ratio to each other, and when this ratio is optimal, these polyunsaturated fatty acids are significantly more valuable. For humans, the optimal ratio is 1 to 4; hemp seed oil achieves 1 to 3 and lies very close to the optimal state.

Healthy Hemp Seeds
In other plants or marine animals, this is often not the case. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are very important or decisively crucial for many functions in the human body. However, the body cannot produce them itself from other raw materials and must therefore absorb them through food to avoid deficiency. Even before hemp prohibition, it was becoming apparent that those who ate many hemp seed products tended to be healthier and lived longer. This would still be the case today.
Hemp Seeds with Hull – Hemp Seeds without Hull
In stores, hemp seeds without hulls cost about three times more, while hemp seeds with hulls are already considerably more expensive than regular wheat. For cost reasons, they should be eaten with the hull, but without hulls, more hemp seed oil would be contained by weight. If you were to extract the oil for hemp seed kitchen use through cold pressing, then the daily requirement would already be more than covered with one tablespoon. The oil content in the seeds is about 30%. Anyone who consumes 2 to 6 tablespoons of hemp seeds (with or without hull) per day should also achieve this. Pressed hemp seed oil, especially in opened bottles (should be consumed within weeks so that the valuable fatty acids haven’t already degraded), will probably age even faster than hemp seeds stored cool, dry, and dark. Unhulled seeds certainly preserve their nutrients even better for hemp seed kitchen use.
Therefore, the question shouldn’t be whether the daily amount of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can be better absorbed with or without hulls, but whether anything bad comes from these hulls. It definitely doesn’t. These are valuable dietary fibers, of which we should eat even more. Dietary fiber is good for digestion, as are hemp seed hulls. It’s therefore more a matter of taste or what you want to do with the hemp seeds. If the hemp hulls don’t bother you, they should simply be eaten along with the seeds. However, there are also those who mainly want to consume hemp proteins, and here it’s recommended to extract these specifically from the hemp seed. Anyone targeting the dietary fiber can choose the hulls as leftovers from oil pressing and processing and consume them in higher quantities. Whether that tastes good would be another question.

Flavor Differences in Hemp Seeds
There are hemp varieties with smaller or medium-sized kernels. Both kernel sizes can be eaten well; with hulls, these must be chewed more thoroughly and that takes a bit longer. Unfortunately, hulled hemp is already almost flavorless. Anyone who mixes this into their muesli can barely taste it. Anyone using kernels with hulls in hemp seed kitchen applications will taste the hemp much more distinctly. Hemp chefs recommend briefly toasting the hemp in a pan. Only then does the nutty aroma of hemp seeds really come through. However, it should be noted that plant oils suffer above certain temperatures, and that’s why heat-resistant oils are used for frying.
Anyone wanting to cook, fry, or bake with hemp oil should choose the lower temperature ranges, since otherwise the valuable omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids will decompose and become worthless. Anyone who heats plant oils above the critical temperature for that plant oil gets harmful compounds as a byproduct that can cause cancer. Chemical processes take place under heat, and these usually don’t lead to advantages. Whether this happens more strongly during frying than during cooking or baking would have to be answered by an experienced cook. It’s generally known that hemp seed oil is not suitable for frying and should not be heated too strongly.
The easiest way is to enhance your favorite muesli with 30% hemp seeds and consume hemp seeds daily in this way. Anyone who takes hemp seeds with hulls and then goes out among people should brush their teeth briefly beforehand or simply rinse thoroughly: the dark hull remnants like to stick between the teeth.

Note from Cannabis XXL
Master chef Danny Wagenfeld explained that when making hemp butter, you should heat to a maximum of 80 degrees Celsius. When baking, maximum up to 140 degrees Celsius – this will also apply when roasting or cooking.
